$75 billion for the Defense Dept!

This is just wrong. What have we gotten ourselves into??

"President Bush is asking Congress for $82 billion to cover the costs of ongoing military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and a myriad of other internationally related expenses, such as training Iraqi security forces, aiding tsunami victims and helping military forces in other nations."

I can't help but wonder: if we had taken last year's 80 billion for Iraq, and this new 82 billion, and put it in the Social Security Trust Fund so it could earn interest between now and 2042, how long would that help extend benefits?

Staying put in Iraq is, in the long run, going to cost something like $500 billion. That's half a trillion, by the time we can reasonably expect to leave.

No, we shouldn't be there. But we can't leave. Not because we have anything productive that we can expect to accomplish there. It's just that 100,000 Iraqis are dead, the country's a ruin, and people get shot or beheaded a lot there, and it's OUR FAULT. We can't just go home and leave the place in condition it's in. You never asked for this, and I never asked for it, and the Iraqis never asked for it. But we own it anyway.

There were people in Iraq that had familiy members dead because of Sadaam that are glad we did it. I want top live without fear on our streets in the year 2042. Education worrieres, we spend enough on education. It's the implementation of educational ideas thats the problem. And the unions that have little to do with the classroom.
