$75 billion for the Defense Dept!

This is just wrong. What have we gotten ourselves into??

"President Bush is asking Congress for $82 billion to cover the costs of ongoing military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and a myriad of other internationally related expenses, such as training Iraqi security forces, aiding tsunami victims and helping military forces in other nations."

Staying put in Iraq is, in the long run, going to cost something like $500 billion. That's half a trillion, by the time we can reasonably expect to leave.

No, we shouldn't be there. But we can't leave. Not because we have anything productive that we can expect to accomplish there. It's just that 100,000 Iraqis are dead, the country's a ruin, and people get shot or beheaded a lot there, and it's OUR FAULT. We can't just go home and leave the place in condition it's in. You never asked for this, and I never asked for it, and the Iraqis never asked for it. But we own it anyway.

Stupid country...
