things that make you go hmm...

The US government is sending over 350 million in aid to tsunami victims, which is great. But we're spending one billion a week in Iraq.

Let's not forget what is happening in Iraq! Five more US troops were killed today and the governor of Baghdad was assasinated.

I was thinking the other day...

Our 'Founding Fathers' led a violent revolution because of, as far as I can tell and please correct me if I'm wrong, unfair taxation and in general, bad government.

Granted, some of 'em probably wanted their way and others really had some great liberal democratic ideas, but imagine if that sort of thing happened today? I mean, do we even consider that in history people have rioted and revolted for LESS then what we put up with on a regular basis? I'm not advocating anything here, but gee whiz!

There's plenty of shit happening today and what do we do? Watch the goddamned idiot box! Sorry atheists (grin), but religion can't hold a candle to T.V. as far as societal opiates go! :)

I don't know what's worse. What I talked about in my last post or the fact I sound like I'm 70 and yearning for the 'good 'ole days.'

I'm only 23.

Sigh... :)

A billion a week? Geez... And to think, we still never proved a link between Sadam and international terrorist organizations.

(At least folks like Brown & Root, Haliburton, etc. are getting paid.)

I swear, this is all completely disgusting. It's getting harder to know what you're fighting for from day to day...

Gov't of the rich by the rich, for the rich. Whoever donates the most $$ gets to decide what our policies are.

oh my gosh run for the hills! seriously people, we're in Iraq for a myriad of reasons and the fact that you all are conspiracy laiden with your logic is amusing and predictable.

not only are we spending $350 million in that region we are also using a ton of military and logistic resources such as USAID that would easily cost us billions. trying to distract and throw barbs against the current US stance clearly isn't well thought out.

Attacks directed at the US Government aren't well thought out you say. What the hell is there to think about? The US Gov. obviously didn't think before invading Iraq, and just for argument's sake, what are the myriad reasons for our being in Iraq? To find and destroy WMD's or was it to liberate the Iraqi people? We were just following the dictates of sound intelligence right? I mean after all the link between Hussein and terrorist attacks directed at the US is unmistakable . . .I dare say Saddam himself was leading the charge across the Canadian border to destroy us infidels.

Has anyone stopped to consider for just one minute where the trillions of dollars necessary to finance an increasingly Vietnam-esque war and our depleted entitlement programs will come from. Indeed where are we going to recuperate the 500 million we will ultimately end up donating as disaster relief? Americans are by far and away some of the most naive if not stupid people on earth. Jobs aren't growing on trees these days and our defense budget is as bloated as ever; what with our masses of soon-to-be retirees and proportionally fewer workers to contribute to the entitlement programs, America is in for a rough time in the years ahead. Oh it gets better - just wait until the dollar virtually collapses because of fiscal irresponsibilty on the part of fanatical, warmongering politicians . . .

I agree with D. This U.S. government is "Gov't of the rich by the rich, for the rich". And peoples and countries than aren't richs, suffer an injury: military attaqs. Is the End of the World, or the end of Bush's government!

The whole irony of this is that if you look at some of the images of the devastation in Southeast Asia and the cities look like in Iraq, they pretty much look the same. One reporter on ABC had described the destroyed buildings and piles of bodies in Indonesia as, "a warzone."

It's nice to think that we live in a country that can create the same chaotic mess similar to a natural disaster.

As far as Iraq is concerned, I think that the only weapons we will ever find there are left overs from what we sold to them to defeat Iran with. That was a pretty long war too, Probably has something to do with the fact that we also sold the same weapons to Iran. Warin my opinion, is just business.AS our need for newer weapons developes we sell our obsolete weapons to to two neighboring countries. Do a couple things to make them mad at each other and use the profits from the ensuing war to develope new weapons that we can sell later.Notice that we don't outsource our weapons manufacturing jobs. I'm sure China or Japan could build them cheaper. That is unless we start using illegal mexican aleians to build them for us right here at home. How about a post or two on a subject we can actually do something about as regular citizens. vanderwilly.blogspot.com
