Yeah, people may be tired of picking up the check for illegal immigrants, but think of all the cheap labor these people do. Without them, hotels, restaurants, farms, etc would not be able to operate.
Well, here's a couple of statistics:
TIME Magazine's April 18 issue cites the following:
$7 billion: Estimated amount of Social Security taxes paid each year by illegal immigrants, even though they will not receive benefits.
10%: Estimated percentage of last year's Social Security surplus made up by those illegal immigrants' tax contributions.
$1.5 billion: Estimated amount illegal immigrants pay each year in taxes for Medicare, for which they are also ineligible.
There is no credible evidence whatsoever that eliminating illegal immigratants from the workforce would have any substantial impact on the California economy. I would be more than willing to pay 5 dollars for a head of lettuce if it meant that my borders were secure and my tax dollars were actually helping non felons. The federal government has a constitutional duty to secure our borders and citizens have a moral duty to do the same. The constitutional right to keep and bear arms is not limited to those with a badge or a criminal record.
Illegal immigration is turning our country into a fractured society, one that speaks English and the other that speaks Spanish. All immigrants must assimillate into society. It is dangerous when a population segment expresses allegiance to Mexico and uses the U.S. as a crutch to ease the ills of their home country. The inscription on the Statue of Liberty does not ask to receive those who would enter unlawfully to then send the money they were paid here to only send it back to Mexico to invest in Mexico.
well, it's obvious people are afraid. and it's equally obvious their fears have no basis in reality whatsoever - which is why they rationalize them. The numbers say illegal immigrants pay much more than they use, in dozens of different ways, no matter how you measure it.
The bozo who says he'd pay $5 for a head of lettuce - fine. Is he willing to pay that much more for EVERYTHING - so that others besides him can afford that lettuce? If not, it isn't his choice.
And when, and ONLY when, the bozos screaming about the poor not obeying the laws are willing to stand up and die if necessary to enforce the laws against the RICH, there's no reason anyone else should give them any respect at all.
