Disney It Ain't

Poor Pope Benedict XVI. Like Sammy Hagar to David Lee Roth, he's having a hell of a time living up to his superpopular predecessor. Pope John Paul II got his own comic books, a flash Popemobile, and calls for canonization. Pope Benedict got the keys to the Vatican and some poorly-made flaming effigies.

Now, Pope John Paul II even gets his own animated film.
Cartoon tribute to Pope John Paul

Experts are calling this a move toward bolstering Catholicism's dwindling popularity among the young folk, but honestly, a cartoon isn’t going to lure in us Catholics feeling increasingly disillusioned by the church’s rigid policies. We want condoms! We want birth control! And not that shifty rhythm method stuff, the real kind! Women clergy members! Popemobiles!

If you don't like what the church teaches, what the church has ALWAYS taught, then why don't you be something else? What if I joined the NRA and then began demanding that they stop lobbying for peoples right to own and carry guns? I certainly have the right to hold that opinion but should I not then choose another group with which to associate myself?

Yay Catholics for condoms!
It's a myth that Church teachings don't change. Can you still buy indulgences? Whereas the NRA is defined by its defense of the Constitutional right to own guns, the Church is not defined by its doctrinal rigidity, although it may apear that way, even to some Catholics.

Indulgences are a part of church practice even today. As far as the abuses that took place in earlier centuries (I assume that this is what you are refering to) that is no longer happening no. One point of clarification, practice and discipline within the church do change wether you are talking about absatining from meat on fridays, or clerical celibacy, or some other practice. The doctrines do not change however. Never have, never will!!
