For the past few weeks, Bob Geldof's grim visage has been popping up everwhere as he extolls the virtues of his Live 8 concert. Well, folks, your fevered waiting is about to pay off--Live 8 (Lord, I hate that cheesy name. It's Live Aid 20! 20!) is finally going down this weekend.

I don't know how effective a pop concert will be in curing the World's Ills. I will merely present the following quote from charmingly cheeky Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher

There have been concerts to help this or that many times in the past. My guess would be that they do help the promoters and musicians. I'm not so sure that the money ever goes any further than that. I have posted my Question Of The Week, I hope you will stop by to answer it.

You know, one of my friends forwarded me the same quote. But I guess lately I've been less cynical of celebrity causes. I mean, leaders of G8 nations are actually dropping some third world debt -- and some credit people like Bono for helping to lobby for that cause.
I don't think G8 leaders are going to see U2 perform at the G8 and change their policy. However, thousands of people who had never heard of the G8 now know what it is and maybe some of those people will try and do something.
